What is airdrop & how does it work?

This article explains AirDrop and how it's used. What is AirDrop? What Does That Mean? AirDrop is a feature in iOS and macOS that lets physically close Mac and iOS devices share files wirelessly with one another with a minimum of fuss. The name basically means to send or 'drop' files over the air from one device to another.

How do I airdrop photos?

To AirDrop your photos (or other media,) tap the device you want to send them to. If you’re sending the photos to a device of yours, they’ll automatically download and save to your device. If you’re sending pictures to someone else, they’ll receive a notification that you’re trying to AirDrop them something. They can then Accept or Decline it.

Who can airdrop send files from?

But sometimes a user may set AirDrop preferences to accept files from “everyone”–which means anyone who is within 30 feet of you. Since the sender is not in your contacts, you’ll only see the name of the device they are sending you the file from.

Who can see my device using airdrop?

Contacts Only: Only your contacts can see your device. Everyone: All nearby Apple devices using AirDrop can see your device. When you set your AirDrop option to Everyone in iOS 16.2 or later, your option reverts to Contacts Only after 10 minutes. Go to Settings > Screen Time.
